Delivered from the Law
Likewise, my brethren, you have undergone death as to the Law through the [crucified] body of Christ, so that now you may belong to Another, to Him Who was raised from the dead in order that we may bear fruit for God. Rom. 7:4
Man fell to the wooing of the law so became legally married to the law (Rom.7:4 TLB). That our husband was very oppressive and fault finding. No matter how we try to please him he still finds fault in us. The more we do well the more he tells us we have failed and he goes ahead to condemn us. He never saw any good in us but in truth there was no good in us. Our husband was perfect but we were nowhere close to perfection.
According to the tenets of marriage I could not just leave my husband and marry to another. Only death do us part. So Christ came, took my place and married the law. So when he died on the cross I was the one that died. After Christ died and resurrected I was now legally allowed to remarry. Now I am married to JESUS. I am no more under the law. I am under my new husband – GRACE (Rom.6:14).
Let’s see some other translations of Romans 7:4:
Your “husband,” your master, used to be the Jewish law; but you “died,” as it were, with Christ on the cross; and since you are “dead,” you are no longer “married to the law,” and it has no more control over you. Then you came back to life again when Christ did and are a new person. And now you are “married,” so to speak, to the one who rose from the dead, so that you can produce good fruit, that is, good deeds for God. TLB
So, my dear brothers and sisters, this is the point: You died to the power of the law when you died with Christ. And now you are united with the one who was raised from the dead. As a result, we can produce a harvest of good deeds for God. NLT
That is how it is with you, my friends. As far as the Law is concerned, you also have died because you are part of the body of Christ; and now you belong to him who was raised from death in order that we might be useful in the service of God. GNT
So it means been under the law will affect your usefulness in God’s service.
You are not under the law again so the law has no control over you. The law and all it consequences for breaking it has passed over you forever.
All the curses of the law can no more fasten themselves on you anymore because you are no more in its control. We have been delivered from the law by the death of Christ. All the curses of Deuteronomy 28 and any other place are not for you because you have been free from the law and it curses. Gal 3:13 says, “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree” NIV
Christ fulfilled the law in my stead and took upon himself all the curses of the law so that I do not have to suffer anyone of them again forever in my life. Go and read Deuteronomy 28 and find out all the curses and compare it with gal. 3:13 so that you can know for show all the curses that can never happen to you again in your life because of Jesus’ work on the cross.
The law hinders your fruitfulness as a believer. You cannot be as fruitful as expected as a child of God if you live under the law. The bible says we have been freed from the jurisdiction of the law so that we can now produce abundant fruits for the kingdom of God.
The reason why a branch (a believer) of the vine (Jesus Christ) is not fruitful (Jn. 15) is because it is under the law. Free yourself from the law and start producing massive harvests of good deeds for the kingdom.
You know you are under the law when you are still trying to get god to accept you, when you aren’t sure if god has really forgiven you or not, when you still think it’s your good works that will take you to heaven, when you feel God is still angry with you for some reason in your past.
Many Christians though have been legally separated from the law and now married to Christ still go back to the law. This is infidelity, this is adultery.
